The built-in down light in my over-the-range microwave died of old age but the microwave itself continues to work great. I quickly noticed, however, how much that light had added to my workspace efficiency and general ambiance of my kitchen. Rather than replace the microwave just for the light, I decided to try an under cabinet fixture. As I have little faith in adhesive strips, I just relied on the supplied strip to hold the light in place while I attached the two little screws to the upper cabinet. Then there was way too much electrical cord hanging down for a 12" cabinet, but I solved the problem nicely with some Command brand Round Cord Clips. I followed instructions and adhered them to the underside of the upper cabinet every six inches or so along the outer edges and they work beautifully to hold up the excess cord out of sight. After a week with no issues I ordered a second light for the other side of the range/microwave and it too is working well. I really appreciate the sensitivity of the on/off switch too -- especially when I'm cooking or doing crafts and don't want to add to the mess. You can likely graze them with a clean knuckle or wrist if you have to turn them on or off. Love it. Some of you may object to being able to see the black plug and short length of wire leading to the outlet, but I don't mind...it just looks like any other appliance plug & kind of disappears into the backsplash. I highly recommend these lights and plan to buy a longer one soon for the 30" cabinet on the other side of the kitchen. If you order any, be sure to allow about 1-1/2 inches for the cord where it's attached to the fixture. In other words, you'll need 13.5" for a 12" light fixture. See my pictures for the difference the new light makes.
Read on AmazonI have only had this light installed for about a week. Light was very easy to install. I used the sticky back tape and then the supplied screws. We have the 24 inch warm white and installed it under a 5 foot section of kitchen cabinets that was always dark. Luckily I have a plug on the inside of a heater closet right next to these cabinets. Drilled a 1/2 inch hole, pushed a pencil with a small hole in the eraser through, plugged the socket from the transformer into the eraser, pulled the plug through the wall.Looks great and lights up the area very well. I think the 36 version would have been too bright. The light appears well built, very solid. So far the touch switch works perfectly.
Read on AmazonI love these lights. I installed one under my kitchen cupboards to test and quickly bought two more. I just wish I could chain them together so they only used one plug. (If I can do this and I just didn’t see the instructions let me know!)
